Lonely Planet review for Chiesa di San Zulian
This church was founded in 829, and later sheathed in Istrian stone by Sansovino on a commission from the wealthy physician Tomasso Rangone, who made his fortune selling syphilis cures and a book revealing the secrets to living past 100 (he died at 84). The good doctor is immortalised in bronze over the portal, holding sarsaparilla – apparently a key ingredient to his miracle cure for VD. Inside are some worthwhile works by Palma il Giovane and, on the right as you enter, Paolo Veronese’s The Dead Christ and Saints.
