Lonely Planet review for Chiesa di San Giacomo Dell’orio

La Serenissima seems as serene as ever inside the cool gloom of this 13th-century Romanesque church. You can trace Venice’s early maritime conquests in the haul of trophies dragged here from far-flung Venetian territories: a Byzantine column in green marble possibly stolen from Constantinople, a 13th-century baptismal font and a Lombard pulpit perched on a 6th-century column from Ravenna. The main 14th-century Gothic addition is the remarkable wooden carena di nave ceiling, but some later art oddities are also worth noting: the wooden crucifix by Veronese and a rare work by Lorenzo Lotto, Madonna with Child and Saints.
