Lido beaches remain a major draw, especially on the Adriatic side, where cleaner water makes for maximum sun-umbrella density on sunny days. The tanning crowd thins out and rates drop a couple of euros after 2pm.

    fun even in the winter

    melyuan recommends this,

    It was even better to go in January when there was not a soul about - all the better to see the rows and rows of beach huts with no-one in them, but it's all too easy to imagine the place heaving under the weight of thousands.
