    Lonely Planet review

DH Lawrence once stayed in this late-19th-century hotel. Rooms vary in size and style and some have balconies; room 403, with a pair of them, is your best option. Meals in its summertime restaurant are simple, solid and uncomplicated; the reception desk betrays the same qualities.

Our independent authors have visited Albergo Nazionale and selected this as one of our recommended hotels in Volterra.

    Description provided by property

Located in the city centre, just 50 metres from the wonderful Piazza dei Priori, the historic Nazionale offers the ideal base for you to explore beautiful Volterra. Buses to Florence, Pisa, Siena and the seaside stop in front of the hotel.

Established in 1890, the Nazionale provides a warm and cosy atmosphere, typical of small Italian hotels. Here you will find unique accommodation where each room is individually designed with traditional furnishings. Free Wi-Fi is available.

The hotel’s restaurant features simple Tuscan cuisine and uses only fresh ingredients and fine local wines.

A bicycle storage is available on site, and there is free public parking for motorbikes outside the building.
