  3. Awestruck by the Pantheon

Blog: nateniale { reflections on my travels and everything else I love } - 14 September 2011

{ Rome, Italy - May 2011 } While admiring the endearing strong elephant (or Pulcino della Minerva which I mentioned in my post "Walking around the city of Rome"), I caught a glimpse of a round building where I expected the Pantheon to be. I had to check my map to confirm that that should be where the Pantheon should stand, and it took me a few seconds to finally go "That is Pantheon!".

  7. Walking around the city of Rome

Blog: nateniale { reflections on my travels and everything else I love } - 5 September 2011

{ Rome, Italy - May 2011 } Roma. Roma. Roma. I think I have a love-hate relationship with the city. On one hand, how can I not love a city with so much history? And yet, the city is huge, which means lots of people and traffic, and everything is far away! After three days in the compact islands of Venice and a day in the university town of Bologna, we spent four days in the city of Rome, and it felt worlds apart.

Blog: nateniale { reflections on my travels and everything else I love } - 27 August 2011

{ Venice, Italy - April 2011 } Before going to Venice, I kept hearing about the bad food that one can find in Venice. Well, with a little research and a little bit of luck, we enjoyed the food we had there. One of the best restaurants we tried in the short 3 days that we were there, was definitely Birraria La Corte. Located in Campo San Polo, it was a short walk from Rialto Market, where we spent our morning.

Heading south from Otranto, I follow the SP358, the road in Puglia that hugs the coast down to the point of no return in Italy. The howling of crickets and the sound of the breeze out the car window creates an enchanting song. I have always had images in my mind of what the very [...]

    Blog: Vagabond3 - 26 August 2011

I arrived in Venice, Italy, one afternoon in October. Stepping off the train’s platform and out of the station, I was quickly greeted with water taxis, charming men singing sweet Italian melodies and the colorful old buildings reflections dancing along the sea green water. It was everything I wanted it to be, and so much more. This was the Italy that I had fallen in love with through movies and books,...

  18. Streamlined Espresso, Modern Art

    Blog: Aerohaveno: A Travel Blog - 17 August 2011

My brother John Richards has a theory: he thinks the reason Americans have such poor coffee is that their big influx of Italian migrants took place before the invention of the modern espresso machine; while Australia, receiving most of its Italians after World War II, benefited from their technological espresso expertise. It's a beguiling theory, and one that's currently embodied in physical form at the Museo Italiano in Melbourne, Australia.
