Pickpockets

Every travel book or online travel information Web site I have seen cautions travelers about pickpockets in Italy. Even the U S Department of State warns that pickpockets are a problem in Italy.

I was the target of an attempted pickpocket (it failed) on the Metro in Rome several years ago. I must look like a really good target, because an attempt was made on me on the Metro in Milan last week.

Background information: When we travel, I carry a "fanny pack" with the pouch in front. The…

Getting to Greece after southern Italy......

After touring around the south , we plan to continue to Greece , starting at the Ionian islands , Corfu etc.. and then heading down south across to Crete. Prefer not to go direct to Athens as we will return home from there...
Has anyone done the Italy to Greece trip and can suggest a backpacker level route to do it? Ferries are fine and budget airline hops also where it saves a long ferry or overland haul. We will arrive in early May and have 2 months for the trip....

Day trip from Rome

Hi everyone,

I am in need of some quick Italian travel tips. Tomorrow I would like to take a day trip out of Rome and into the real Italian countryside. Any recommendations? MUST be somewhere I can take the train to as I do not have a car (and am scared of driving in Italy). Someone already recommended Orvieto, but that might be too "townie" and not as picturesque as I am hoping. Any recommendations?

Thanks so much in advance! I need to get out of the city...

Cheers!

PS- I've been to Pompeii…

From Marco Polo Airport, Venice to ICTP, Trieste

Hi guys,

I'm going to visit ICTP in Trieste in Nov, but my flight will land in Marco Polo Airport in Venice. Following steps are my plan to get to ICTP:

Take bus (ACTV linea 5) to Piazzale Roma. Walk to Venezia Santa Lucia railway station. Take train (Regionale Veloce) to Trieste Centrale railway station. Take bus (no. 36) to ICTP.

Is there any better suggestion than this? Also, this will be my first time to Italy, I note that the temperature in Trieste during Nov is around 12 degree…

Cinque Terre

Hi guys.

Going to Cinque Terre for a few days next year for our honeymoon.

Will be there late October.

I've read a few things regarding the weather and i'm a tad concerned. We realise it will be cold, that's fine.
But would it be so cold and wet etc that it would spoil the visit? Or is it just a case of it being cold but still beautiful and worth going to?

Thanks so much to all in advance.

Hello Thorn Tree,

My friend that I am studying with in Amsterdam and I are trying to make plans to travel together late December until a few days after New Years and are trying to decide where to go. We would both love to go to Italy and take a 2 week tour of the country, but also want to make sure we are somewhere that would have something exciting for us to do for New Years.
We also want to make sure that wherever we are for Christmas, everything isn't closed and there would be something…
