Lonely Planet review

This is one of Palermo's best places for lunch, and not only for those of you wanting a bit of cheap grub. The foccacerie are traditionally workmen's eateries, and the system of choosing and ordering from the counter can be a bit daunting until you get the hang of it.

There's a board with the daily specials and an antipasti buffet that you can pick from, so get a plate of antipasti - grilled aubergines, artichokes, green beans and olives - and a primo (first course) of the daily pasta, (finishing with a slice of fresh watermelon in the summer months. It's better to get here around , when the lunch crowds have dispersed.
