  1. Nora, Sardinia Wishes You Were Here

    Blog: Suzy Guese - 4 May 2012

The clouds suggest an invasion of the spring storm variety, but I know this spot isn’t spooked. The ancient city of Nora, set up on the southern coast of Sardinia, has seen conquerors come and go, thunderheads included. With a sprinkle of rain, I roam the supposed first town on the Italian island.   Founded [...]

  2. 1 month to understand, 1 month to fall in love!

    Blog: Canada's Adventure Couple - 3 April 2012

I started travelling when I was 20. As a student I couldn't afford a long stay. As a worker, things hadn't change.I fell in love with my Sardinia, as I've seen it for the first time. So quite honestly, I'm addicted to it, I'm a slow traveller!

    Blog: Suzy Guese - 12 August 2011

On every traveler’s lifeline, there are points where you believe you have found a place that is all yours. You don’t know this will be the result when you board that plane, train or bus. That is to be expected, the beginnings for surprise. Sardinia is my place, or at least, it was. A Catch [...]

  6. Sitting On Italian Church Steps

    Blog: Suzy Guese - 20 May 2010

When the chaos of the outside world grows, expands, and engulfs everything in my travel path, I head not to a museum, hotel, or restaurant for respite but rather to a church. Throughout Italy, a Catholic church seems to be the requirement in every town, along the same lines of having a supermarket or a [...]

  7. Southern Sardinia Wishes You Were Here

    Blog: Suzy Guese - 30 April 2010

It is no secret that I love Sardinia. The island just below Corsica and to Italy’s west yields those corny, take-your-breath-away moments. While I have yet to get up north and see what northern Sardinia is all about, I did spend some time exploring southern Sardinia’s scenery, filled with secluded beaches and  peachy-colored, rocky mountains. [...]

  11. Riding a Scooter in Rome

Blog: Ron in Rome - 19 November 2009

On travel boards I often see folks asking, should I rent a scooter to see Rome or Naples? The responses are often one-sided – Not just no, but NO, NO, NO, NO….NO! I certainly understand this as we drive a ride a motorino (scooter) and it can be quite challenging.   The motorino rules are [...]

  12. Sardinia and Corsica part II - Sardinia and Sardinians

    Blog: Sophie's World - 16 September 2009

To get to Corsica, we take a bus to Santa Teresa di Gallura, then a ferry to Bonifacio in southern Corsica. We have with us an inimitable guide, Marco. Leaving town at 6 am to catch the 10 o’clock ferry, we drive through flooded streets. I was awoken in the middle of the night by [...]

  13. Sardinia and Corsica part I – Alghero

    Blog: Sophie's World - 15 September 2009

About 3 months ago – at the beginning of summer – Cat and I took a short trip to Sardinia. We flew with Ryanair to Alghero for next to nothing, then found a very nice little B&B called Aigua, with split-level rooms inside the old town walls: all dark, rich wood, exposed beams and wrought [...]

  15. Molto Bene (Part Due: The Search for the perfect Spiaggia)

Blog: Bec and John in the UK - 26 November 2008

After such an idyllic first day, we could probably be excused for thinking we would enjoy similar splendor on each subsequent day in "The Cinq". Unfortunately, though, our luck was about to run out. We woke the next day to a grey sky, a light, constant drizzle, and the discovery that there really isn't all that much to do in the Cinque Terre when it rains. There's eating, of course, but believe it or not, there is actually a limit to how many trattorias, ristorantes and pizzerias you can handle in one day!
