Rome’s first minimalist church, this beautiful white Richard Meier creation has a remarkable and appropriate purity, and for lovers of contemporary architecture, it is well worth the trek out to the suburbs to see it. Built out of white concrete, stucco, gleaming travertine and 976 sq m of glass, it is an exercise in dazzling lightness and white, making use of the play of light both inside and out. The structure is flanked on one side by three graduated concrete, sail-like shells, while on the other side a four-storey atrium connects the church with a community centre.
