Lonely Planet review for Da Augusto

For a homely Trastevere feast, plonk yourself at one of Augusto’s rickety tables and prepare to enjoy some true Mama-style cooking. The hardworking waiters dish out hearty platefuls of rigatoni allamatriciana and stracciatella (clear broth with egg and Parmesan) among a host of Roman classics, accompanied by carafes of wine, and they’ll scribble the bill on the paper tablecloth.

    stay away!

    europebyfoot does not recommend this,

We went there yesterday evening for dinner, following the Lonely Planet travel guide. Only two of us, we had to wait nearly half an hour in line because of the slow service.

We sat down, disregarding the frowning face of who appeared to be the bad-tempered owner, we were given a printed menu that was different than the menu printed outside. five minutes after sitting down, we still tried to find someone to clean our table or order from. When the waitress arrived she said that out of nearly 30 items on the menu, there are only 5 dishes today... 20 minutes after ordering the only available starter on the menu we still pecked dry bread. When we asked the waitress what about our orders, she said something in Italian. Another waitress came and asked for our order. We told her we ordered rigatoni over 25 minutes ago. 10 minutes later, two plate of pasta were literally thrown to our table by the angry owner-looking guy.

The plain pasta with only cheese and black pepper on it, takes about three minutes to make. when we asked for some olive oil, the owner-guy gave us a typical Italian "aaaaaahh" and shouted something about English. When we finished the starter, they asked us if we want a second course. Not having another four hours to waste and feeling very unwelcome, we asked for the check. We had to ask it three more times in the next 10 minutes until one of the waitresses who speaks English wrote it on our table. We left immediately, thinking of a way to warn other tourists how to stay away from this place.

Just to show that we are not the only ones, a family sitting at the table next to us got up as well just after the pasta starter, not before we exchanged addresses and names of far-better places to go to.

The only good things I can say about this place is that prices are fair (for the 5 items they had out of the 30 in the printed menu and the different menu they had posted outside) and the red house wine is good.
