Teatro dell'Opera di Roma information
Built in 1880, the plush and gilt interior of Rome's premier opera house is a stunning surprise after the Fascist-era exterior (which was revamped in the 1920s). This theatre has an impressive history: it premiered Puccini's Tosca and Maria Callas once sang here. Contemporary productions don't always match the splendour of the setting, but you may get lucky.
