Il Guru
Il Guru is lined with embroidered drapes and elaborate statuettes, and has a few outdoor tables on the cobbled street. The tandooris are prepared in a proper tandoori oven, the curries and vegetables are tasty and the setting is suggestive, albeit of Rome rather than Rajasthan.

Ganesh Ji
Fancy a quick curry? Forget it. But a good slow one can be had on the canalside terrace of this place. Charmingly chaotic staff members serve up authentic dishes at reasonable prices - particularly pleased guests have scribbled their appreciation on the walls. The place also offers a vegetarian lunch menu (around €12) and a nonvegetarian lunch option (around €14.50). Chuck in a €2.50 cover charge.

Jaipur
Jaipur is a cut above most other Indian restaurants in Rome and has an airy interior covered in Indian paintings to get you in the mood. Popular with young Romans and foreign students, it specialises in northern Indian cooking, with a large selection of vegetarian and tandoori dishes as well as old friends like tikka masala and rogan josh.

Ashoka
For fine Indian dining at comparatively reasonable prices it is hard to surpass this place, one of the few Indian options in Florence. A reasonable range of predictable dishes, from tandoori to biryanis and kormas, can be washed down with cold Kingfisher beer.

Shri Ganesh
Formally dressed staff can be either discreet or happy to chat, depending on your mood. Either way, they’ll fill you up with a meat or vegetable thali that’s complexly spiced and prettily presented, or ask them to bring on the banquet. There are tandoor dishes too.
