The top cities in Italy
Florence by Jiuguang Wang
Think about Italy and the first thing that comes to mind are its captivating cities. Rome, Venice and Florence are the stuff that travel dreams are made of, jammed chock-full of ancient ruins, iconic architecture, world-famous artworks, legendary museums and some of the finest food ever put on a plate. But don’t overlook the mesmerising metropolises dotted around this boot-shaped Mediterranean nation. In the north, look to Milan for fashion, Turin for Savoy Palaces, Genoa for maritime history and Trieste for coffee. Food is the focus in central Italy, with Bologna serving up delicacies from across Emilia Romagna. To the south, Naples offers a raffish, Mediterranean charm and the nation’s best pizzas, while Palermo lures travellers with Sicilian attitude and effusive baroque architecture.
