Lonely Planet review for Trattoria Mario

Despite being in every guidebook, this jam-packed place retains its soul and allure with locals. A 100% family affair since opening in 1953, its chefs shop at the nearby Mercato Centrale and dish up tasty, dirt-cheap dishes with speed and skill. Get here right on the dot of noon to score a stool (tables are shared) and be aware that credit cards aren’t accepted.

    take a breath.

    mikeyone recommends this,

Florence is a busy, noisy, colourful city and this restaurant is a perfect representation of the city in which it stands.

Tables jammed close together. The clinking of cutlery. Masses of people arriving and leaving. The glug of wine. The unidentifiable noises of a busy kitchen are all replaced by the quietness of people enjoying great food.

This small, family run restaurant is a constant source of pleasure.

No-one, but no-one does roast chicken like Mario's does. Don't try to analyse the dish, just eat it. Deliziosa.

After a busy day of being a tourist, go to Mario's and experience a few hours of being a local.

Drink up and drink it in.
