Belcore
Belcore’s decor may be uninspiringly simple, but this trattoria offers up one of the most creative menus in town, with fusion-Mediterranean dishes like fresh pasta with ray fennel and buttery breadcrumbs as well as lobster with mint, sweet garlic and tripe in a white-wine sauce. The Moroccan-Italian staff gives a warm welcome as well as good value for money.

Trattoria Cavolo Nero
Well off the main tourist trails - but the 'secret' of most concierges - the Tuscan 'black cabbage' is an elegant and intimate restaurant with flattering lighting and a menu that favours meat-eaters but offers some tempting soups too. Keep room open for dessert.
