South of Naples you'll find Ercolano, an uninspiring suburb made all the more exciting by being home to Herculaneum, one of Itay's best-preserved ancient sites. Head a little further south and you'll reach the compelling and not-to-be missed archaeological site of Pompeii and on from there, the visually dramatic tourist town of Sorrento.
