Lonely Planet review for Da Michele

As hard-core as it gets, Naples’ most famous pizzeria takes the no-frills ethos to its extremes. It’s dingy and old-fashioned and serves only two types of pizza: margherita (tomato, basil and mozzarella) and marinara (tomatoes, garlic and oregano). But boy are they good!

The best food I've ever had in my entire life!!!!

Hey you!! Yes you - the person reading this!!! If you ever visit Italy south of Florence, you are a complete fool if you do not visit Da Michele. This shouldn't be listed as LP's #3 thing to do in Naples... It should be listed as #1. I went to this restaurant in 2003 and I have never forgotten it.

I've never had a pizza this good. Almost every time I go to a restaurant, I order the pizza with the hopes that I could find something comparable without having to travel to Naples. It hasn't happened in 7+ years.

This will be the most memorable dining experience of your lifetime. Do not... I repeat... DO NOT SKIP OUT ON THIS PIZZERIA!

Do NOT Go To Naples & Not Visit Pizzera Da Michele!

    thattravelingcouple recommends this,

This place is an absolute MUST SEE if you're ever in (or near) Naples! I would seriously jump on the 2 hour train from Rome JUST for this pizza. From the time you line up outside to the time you walk out the door with a VERY full belly, the experience is ALL Italian and SO freaking awesome I can't even stress how much!

I'd read about the Pizzeria Da Michele in "Eat Pray Love" and was on a rampage to find it as soon as we hit the pavement in Naples. We lined up outside and from the smells drifting out the door we KNEW we were in for something amazing!

After figuring out what the heck our number was in Italian we were rushed inside by a busy-bee Italian man who was simultaneously yelling pizza orders at the chef and shoo'ing the previous customers - this was the REAL DEAL!

There are two options on the menu - marinara and margarita - if I went again I'd go solely for the margarita but both were sublime! The pizza is like NOTHING you will have ever tasted before, the dough is crispy and yet chewy, doughy and yet light, its phenomenal and the way the sauce tastes with the cheese - seriously I'm drooling as I type this EIGHT months later!

The whole atmosphere is exciting and exhilarating with hustle and bustle everywhere, local Italian families chowing down and speaking loudly (its like Everybody Loves Raymond times a MILLION) and when you pair that with THIS pizza it's an absolute must-visit when visiting Naples or the surrounding area!

PLEASE go to Pizzeria Da Michele when you are visiting Naples, Rome or anywhere within a 2 hour radius - trust me it will be worth it!
