Lonely Planet review for Ristorante da Ciccio

Sublime local seafood and charming host Carlo make this atmospheric place a heart-stealer. Highlights include tubattone pasta with clams and pecorino cheese, and a zesty mussel soup topped with fried bread and chilli. The wizened man sitting out the front was once the chef. These days he spends his evenings cigarette in one hand, glass of wine in the other, happily muttering to himself.

le meilleur restaurant de notre séjour

    remietmina recommends this,

    Great "da Ciccio"

    macsimo recommends this,

If you have the chance to go to Ischia, be sure to spend one (at least) of your dinners in the restaurant "da Ciccio" in Ischia Ponte.
Guido (the Chef) and Carlo (among the tables), sons of that adventurous hard worker named Ciccio that opened the restaurant in the late 50's, they will host you friendly, warmly and professionally as only southern Italians know how to do …
The first thing to know is that "da Ciccio" is not one of those luxury and expensive restaurants where dishes looks like more works of art than food to eat (nothing against, obviously; sometimes they are great restaurants, as well…), but a serious place where to eat fresh fish food, well prepared, at a very reasonable quality/price ratio. You will always spend 30/40 Euros.
So, in the menu, choose what you wish, or ask Carlo for advices.
Start with a "bruschetta" (toasted bread seasoned with garlic, small tomatoes, oil, salt, chips of pecorino cheese, oregano and basil). Bread is from Boccia's bakery, 50 meters from the restaurant (hand made in wood oven), while small tomatoes are a very perfumed and tasty local product. Pay attention! Only one…
Hors d'oeuvre: mussels soup or peppered mussels, sea salad, fresh octopus salad (fantastic!) with or without potatoes, marinated anchovies …
First course: "scialatielli" (a sort of very thick home made spaghetti) with sea fruits. "Paccheri vongole e zucchine" (a kind of pasta with clams and courgette), "Paccheri al pesce spada" (with swordfish), "tagliatelle ai gamberi rossi" (with local red prawns), "spaghetti cozze e vongole" (with mussels and clams), …
Second course: "gamberi rossi alla griglia" (grilled local red prawns), "calamaro ripieno" (stuffed cuttlefish), "frittura di paranza" (fried small local fish: a very special dish), "frittura di calamari e gamberi" (fried cuttlefish and prawns), "frittura di alici" (fried anchovies), "buillabaisse" (fish soup: delicious, for passionates), ...
Cakes: well done the ricotta and pears cheese cake.
You certainly won't be able to try all these great food in one night … Otherwise, ask for a good "expresso" coffee and a liqueur: "rucolino" (rocket based), "liquirizia" (liquorice based) or "limoncello" (easy to understand…). You will surely buy one of them (at least) in the shop in front of the restaurant.
Nothing more to add. Remember only that this restaurant is a genuine and an easygoing restaurant, not really a smart and unaffordable place. That is its added value.
If you can, avoid Saturday night (as in all Italian restaurants ...!), but be sure that you will always have a nice experience.
