The Amalfi Coast gets very busy in summer, so book ahead, particularly on weekends and in July and August. Most of the big city-centre hotels are geared towards package tourism and prices are correspondingly high. There are, however, some excellent choices; pretty Massa Lubrense makes a good base and offers a quieter location than some of its higher-profile Amalfi neighbours. In a superb position overlooking the two gulfs of Salerno and Naples, Sant’Agata is fast gaining a reputation for its agriturismi as well as its restaurants. Book ahead if you are planning to visit in high season.
