Early planning advise

We (2 adults + two children 3 and 5 years old) are planning to visit Iran some time between Nowruz and Ramadan 2015. Main interest is culture, people, historical sights. So far we are thinking of the (AFAIK fairly standard) Shiraz-Yazd-Isfahan-Tehran (and places in-between) route. We'd appreciate if you could help with the following questions:

What would be the best time for visiting this part of Iran? (concerning climate/nature, events/festivals, etc) Is it necessary to book accommodation and…

Israel - Jordan border crossing

Hello there. I've been trying to find up to date info on the situation of the Israel Jordan border. I found this info which can help, but not sure how old it is.

Can anyone check if at the moment it is the same price for exit and entry tax on the Northern and Southern borders?

I will not use Allenby bridge because I don't have a visa for Jordan.

Thank you for your help!

Dubai Layover

We hold US Passports. Our first layover is 6.5 hours long and our second layover (coming back) is 12 hours long, both arriving Dubai in the evening.

First layover is from 7:30pm to 2am. Thinking for this one, we head to Burj Khalifa and explore that area for an hour or two. Then head back to airport.

Our second layover is from 8:30pm to 8:30am. Any ideas what to do for this one since we would have gotten the BK out of the way the first time around? Again this is at night, so any cool…

Independent travel on a British passport

Hi, I'm sorry if this has been asked already but I am receiving a lot of conflicting information on whether it's currently possibly to be issued a visa for independent travel in Iran with a British passport. I read through 'visa advice for travellers going to Iran' and it mentioned US citizens having to book as part of a tour but nothing about British citizens. I am looking to travel for two weeks early next year but probably wouldn't bother if this was to be as part of a tour. Many thanks

Teaching English

Hi there, I'm interested to hear any experiences of teaching English in the Middle East or North Africa. I've just started looking into this as something I would like to do.
Any advice on what countries would be a good choice to consider? My concerns are mostly whether I will be able to take Arabic classes and whether I will be able to move about freely as a young woman (married, and my husband will be there too, but it'd be nice if he didn't have to babysit me 24/7).
Also wondering how people…

A few questions about the Jesus Trail

Hi all,

I am planning to hike independently the Jesus Trail (Nazareth-Capernaum) around New Year. I’d be most grateful if fellow travelers familiar with this trail could answer the following few questions:

is accommodation and food widely available along the trek at the end of December/beginning of January? My plan is to begin the trek one morning from the Fauzi Azar Inn and then stay one night each at Ilaniya and Arbel

does weather tend to be ok at that time of the year? I’ve read that…
