This castle-like guesthouse looks like a great place to film a movie about chain-rattling ghosts or crusading knights. The building was opened in 1863 as a pilgrims’ hospice and later became the Austrian consulate in Palestine. There is a garden in front and the cloistered exterior is a popular hang-out for guests chatting over rounds of beer. Rooms are basic but comfortable. The hospice is on the corner of Al-Wad and Via Dolorosa. Ring the bell to get inside (reception is open 7am to 11pm).
