Lonely Planet review for War Memorial Gardens
By our reckoning, the most beautiful patch of landscaped greenery in Dublin is the War Memorial Gardens, if only because they’re as tranquil a spot as any you’ll find in the city. Designed by Sir Edwin Lutyens, they commemorate the 49,400 Irish soldiers who died during WWI; their names are inscribed in the two huge granite bookrooms that stand at one end. A beautiful spot and a bit of history to boot.
