Lonely Planet review for Four Courts
With its 130m-long facade and neoclassical proportions, the Four Courts was built between 1786 and 1802 to the design of James Gandon. In 1922, the building was captured by anti-Treaty republicans, and pro-Treaty forces shelled the site to try to dislodge them. Displays on the building’s history and reconstruction are on the 1st floor. Court hearings can be observed from public galleries between 10am and 4pm only.
