Coppinger Row
The South William boys have applied their criteria of cool to this new eatery just around the corner and come up trumps – the chefs have combined to create a tasty, unfussy menu of Mediterranean treats, to be enjoyed as main courses or as bar bites. We like the roast guinea fowl with borlotti beans but will settle for the meatball linguini.

Seagrass
Utterly unassuming from the outside, this excellent new spot in the south of the district will surprise you: the locally sourced, roughly Mediterranean menu (baked seafood penne, pan-fried lambs’ livers, and a bacon and cabbage risotto are typical) is uniformly excellent, the dining room is quietly elegant and the service absolutely perfect.

Odessa
Odessa's lounge atmosphere, with comfy sofas and retro standard lamps, has long attracted the city's hipsters, who flock here for homemade burgers, steaks or daily fish specials. You may not escape the sofa after you've quaffed a few of Odessa's renowned cocktails while playing a game of backgammon. Weekend brunch is extremely popular.

101 Talbot
Funky 101 Talbot is a perennial favourite of artists, students, locals and theatre-goers. They’re attracted by its eclectic menu, canteen-style atmosphere and artwork. Its scallops with black pudding and raspberry dressing are divine.
