Jo’burger
A playful, kids-in-the-70s theme (the menus are pasted into children’s almanacs), DJs playing great music loud enough to hear but not too loud to be annoying, and a sensational burger menu make this the coolest, hippest, best burger joint in the city. The organic burgers – beef, lamb, fish, veggie – come in a variety of options, all with funky names. The mapetla has beetroot salad, rocket and relish; the zondi comes with green thai curry mayo, coriander and chilli.

Gourmet Burger Kitchen
South William St (14 South William St; noon-10pm Sun-Wed, noon-11pm Thu-Sat); South Anne St (5 South Anne St; noon-10pm Sun-Wed, noon-11pm Thu-Sat); Temple Bar (Unit 1, Temple Bar Sq; noon-11pm Mon-Sat, noon-10pm Sun) Burgers are back, and they don't get any better than the ones served at the three city-centre branches of this restaurant. The menu has a big range of choice, from your straight-up beef burger with cheese to something a little more adventurous: how about a Kiwiburger topped with beetroot, egg, pineapple, cheese, salad and relish? They also have decent vegie options.

Bobo’s
Cow-hide leather banquettes suggest a burger joint with a difference, and Bobo’s is just that: a dozen different kinds of organic burgers with Irish names flesh out the menu at this cute spot that promotes the notion that fast food can be healthy. The burgers are exceptional but the home-cut chips, which promise so much in their old-fashioned metal bucket, are very disappointing.
