Like most cities, the closer to the city centre you want to stay, the more you'll pay – and the room sizes get smaller accordingly. Budget travellers will largely be confined to the handful of good hostels in the city. Although there are some good midrange options north of the Liffey, the biggest spread of accommodations is south of the river, ranging from elegant Georgian townhouses in the midrange bracket to the city's top hotels. There's also a range of excellent options in the circular belt of suburbs immediately south of the city centre. Prices go up dramatically at peak times, such as during summer and festivals.
