Lonely Planet review
Originally part of a monastery, this orderly hostel hasn't quite lost its institutional aura with stained-glass windows in places, polished wood floors and high ceilings. Rates include continental breakfast.
Our independent authors have visited Abbeywood and selected this as one of our recommended hostels in Westport.
Description provided by property
If you are looking for a friendly place to stay while in Westport, why not
pay us a visit. We are located just two minutes walk from the town centre,
within sight of Croagh Patrick.
So what do you look for in a place to stay? Do you find hotels too
expensive? B&Bs too claustrophobic and hostels too communal? Abbeywood gives
you the best of all three. If you cannot survive without a phone and a
trouser press in your room, then Abbeywood is probably not for you. If
however, you are looking for budget prices, a comfortable bed, hot showers,
freedom to come and go as you please, Private rooms, TV/Video, Internet
access and free WiFi all set in landscaped grounds only a stones throw from
the centre of Westport, then you are in the right place.
Abbeywood is a former monastery, still retaining many of its original
features such as stained glass windows, polished wood floors and high
ceilings. Its situation, set in off the road in its own grounds makes it
hard to believe it is so close to the centre of town. All the rooms have
large picture windows with views over Croagh Patrick and the surrounding
town. Please note that contrary to previous years, we now do not have
kitchen or dining room access. In the morning tea/coffee/oj will be
available in the sitting room. Come and visit us today, we guarantee you
will be back!'
