Positioned between Loughs Conn and Cullen, this family-run hotel gives you the feeling of being aboard a boat. Its genteel, champagne-coloured ‘Grace Kelly’ sitting room has some photographs of the actress who was a relative of the hotel’s owner. All 58 bedrooms are comfortable (try for one opening on to the panoramic timber deck), but you’re unlikely to spend much time in them given the activities on offer: cookery courses (€120 including lunch), painting classes (€95), a fishery school (from €95) and boat hire (with/without engine €40/60 per day; rod and waterproof hire available). Non-guests can also sign up.

Our independent authors have visited Pontoon Bridge Hotel and selected this as one of our recommended hotels in County Mayo.

Description provided by property

Pontoon Bridge Hotel is nestled between Lake Conn and Lake Cullin, and both the Nephin and Ox Mountains. With spacious rooms and full Irish breakfasts, the Pontoon has a rooftop cabin housing a hot tub and sauna.

Comfortable rooms all have en suite bathrooms. Most have stunning view of the surrounding lakes and mountains. Wired internet is available in some rooms and all public areas of Pontoon.

The Pontoon Bridge offers classes in fishing, cookery and landscape painting. All courses are run by experienced tutors. There is also a beauty salon providing many treatments.

The famous River Moy, only 4 miles away, is one of the best salmon rivers in Europe. Deep sea angling is available in 3 different bays and there is plenty of coarse fishing locally.

The Twin Lakes restaurant serves international cuisine whilst the Terrace restaurant offers a bistro experience. Both overlook Lough Conn, as does the Waterfront Bar.

The Pontoon Bridge Hotel is the ideal base for discovering the coastlines of North Mayo, Connemara, Achill and the cities of Galway and Sligo. Knock Airport is only a 25-minute drive from Pontoon.
