Lonely Planet review
You can't stay in Kilkenny Castle, but this historic mansion is the next best thing. Once the home of the earls of Ormonde, today it houses a boutique hotel with aristocratic trappings including sweeping staircases, marble fireplaces, an art collection and impeccable gardens. The generous rooms are individually decorated and, to remind you you're staying amid history, the floors creak.
Our independent authors have visited Butler House and selected this as one of our recommended guesthouses in Kilkenny City.
