Lonely Planet review
So commanding it doesn't need an address, the pillared, ivy-covered Malton in the centre of town is a throwback to Victorian elegance – at least from the outside. Inside it's had a thorough strip-and-refit; of the 172 rooms, the pick are those in the 1852 wing, which have retained their period opulence. There are several stunning restaurants and a spa and leisure centre with a 17m swimming pool, gym and two tennis courts.
Our independent authors have visited The Malton and selected this as one of our recommended hotels in Killarney.
Description provided by property
From its distinctive architecture to its effortless service and genuine hospitality, The Malton has been a favourite retreat for over 150 years.
After warming yourself by the open fire in our entrance hall, ease into a soft velvet sofa and enjoy afternoon tea. We like to think time slows down just a little at The Malton. Enjoy the light as it streams through tall windows, ramble through our gardens, and rest for a while on a secluded bench. Where else are you going to find 6 acres of gardens in the centre of a bustling town? This is life at The Malton, a Victorian landmark, and one of Ireland’s most beautiful hotels since 1854.
After a restful night, you will be treated to our sumptuous breakfast. Everything from healthy options to the positively sinful is on offer. After breakfast, the day is yours, and there is no better place to set off for adventure. From here starts the iconic Ring of Kerry, taking you on a breathtaking tour of wild seas and rugged landscapes.
Golf in Kerry is the stuff of legend, with historic links courses like Ballybunion and Waterville rated among the top in the world. For the avid golfer, half a dozen championship courses mean you will never be short of a challenge.
Enjoy a day in nearby Killarney National Park, with its stunning woodlands, lakes, and mountains. Visit the Outlet Centre, where you can shop to your heart’s content, or ramble through the quaint town centre, full of boutiques, cafes and art galleries.
Find a sunny window seat and lose yourself in a good book from our library. Or pass a whole afternoon in front of the fire – without once looking at your watch – sipping an afternoon drink and reading the paper.
