Lonely Planet review for Monroe’s Tavern
Often photographed for its classic, world-weary facade, Monroe’s delivers traditional music and ballads, plus it remains the only pub in the city with regular Irish dancing. A pizza joint buried within turns out good pies.

Pizza, beer and dancing, the ultimate combination
candacedriskell recommends this,
Most pubs in Galway close their kitchens come nightfall, meaning the only grub you can get in a bar is a bag of Tayto. Monroe's is the exception, with their yummy "Pizza Cabin" extention serving up pies into the night. The beer's good too, and the slightly touristy irish dancing is great entertainment.

Great Pizza and in a great spot
yomama1977 recommends this,
Monroe's, while a bit of a tourist spot with Irish music "sessions" every night (for real, on-the-spot trad sessions from great musicians, go one block away to The Crane), is a great place to gather with friends and have a great pint and some great pizza. Just go through the entry behind the bar and into the Pizza Cabin. I gave the "atmosphere 3 stars because the Pizza Cabin itself is little more than an ordering counter, but it is connected to a great pub. The pizza and pub are great and I would highly recommend both.
