diskob recommends this,
A great place to make your regular haunt - top weekend craic with music (djs & bands) and other off the wall entertainment. Also great midweek to drop in for a shneaky blouse, or a curative..
A warm welcome, super staff and alcoves to hide in and maybe have a read - or just get sozzled with a pal or two.
Two Thumbs Up ("The Two Thumbers Almanac")Good for: music, craic, divilment, disco dancing, Sunday Pints, Midweek pints, Shneaky Pints

If you're looking for either lazy pints or a boogie
amsterob recommends this,
You can't buy atmosphere... and this place has it in oodles! Always a favourite with the local scene, the friendly bar staff will go out of their way to make you feel at home where they can and there's a great selection of board games & a small library up front to keep you entertained on a rainy night as you sip away at your Guinness. It can get very lively at the weekends and some of the best dj talent in Ireland play here on a regular basis. playing an eclectic mix of grade A choons from dance, to soul, to indie. The place turns into a thumping, happening (but free!) club, complete with improvised dance floor on these nights. it's about 5 minutes walk from the city centre so very handy if you stay in one of the hostels. Definitely worth checking it out!
Good for: music, Games, African dancing, Snugs, Fireplace, Smoking area, Great pint of Guinness, Trendy & Happening
Not good for: Trad music

Swanky red-lit bar in Galway's "red-light" district.
candacedriskell recommends this,
This bar is a real hit with locals, who love it for its lack of cover charge, fantastic DJ's and well-heated outdoor smoking area. Located amongst the few strip clubs in Galway, the Blue Note is bit edgier than the trad-loving pubs on Shop Street.
Good for: late night, beer garden, Smokers
