You can't miss the landmark lemon yellow Metropole Hotel (aka the Met) perched on the city centre's northern riverbank. Entered via MacCurtain St, its riverside aspect affords sweeping views from the front rooms and upper-level candlelit restaurant.
Lofty coffered ceilings, granite, marble and mottled tiles the colour of Irish moss, as well as pedestal basins and old-fashioned chrome fittings anchor this 1897-built hotel's sense of history, but the Met recently underwent a complete refurbishment. You can now pad around soundlessly on plush carpets and feel comfortably corporate in the 113 lavish rooms, where every whim is catered to by attentive staff. With your free entry to the hotel's Grecian-temple-style health club, you can do laps in the elongated swimming pool, work out at the gym, take all sorts of aerobics classes, or (for an extra charge) zen out with an acupuncture or beauty treatment.
