Lonely Planet review
A low-key inn in the equally low-key centre of town. The 14 rooms are timeless in a nebulous place between 1950 and 1980. The pub is perfect for a relaxed pint and fish stories, with food of the chicken Kiev and lasagne school.
Our independent authors have visited The Mountshannon Hotel and selected this as one of our recommended hotels in Mountshannon & Around.
Description provided by property
In the centre of the charming village of Mountshannon, this hotel is just a 3-minute walk from the village harbour on Lough Derg, the largest fishing lake on the river Shannon.
The Mountshannon Hotel has traditional, comfortable bedrooms, all with an individual private bathroom, multi-channel TV, tea/coffee making facilities and a hairdryer.
A comfortable lounge and residents bar provide a relaxing atmosphere and offer tasty food freshly prepared from local produce that can be easily traced to Irish farms.
There is traditional Irish music every Friday night during the summer season (May to September). Guests can also choose to eat or have drinks on the outside decking area.
The harbour has some lovely picnic areas and special swimming areas, whilst a boat also makes trips out to the Holy Island, which is an important part of the village’s history.
