The situation in Iran remains tense. A council of clerics in the holy city of Qum has defied Supreme Leader Ayatollah Khamenei by declaring the recent election results invalid.
With an overwhelming amount of information and disinformation on the web, the situation can be very confusing for travellers. We highly recommend checking a variety of sources if you’re planning a trip to Iran soon.
Your first stop should be the Thorn Tree forum’s Middle East branch. This is full of great resources, including posts by people in the region. This thread might be particularly relevant for those planning a trip.
Keen to stay on top of the situation? Here’s a list of great sites that have relevant, updated content on the election situation.
- Demotix has aggregated images, videos and articles by ‘citizen-journalists’ on the ground.
- This TechCrunch page shows you how to find relevant images.
- Twazzup provides a good way to search Twitter for breaking Iran subject matter.
- Mashable puts together some impressive stats around web activity around the election.
