Lonely Planet review for National Museum of Iran
The modest National Museum of Iran is no Louvre, but it is chock-full of Iran’s rich history and should be on every visitor’s list of things to see in Tehran.

Countries have gone to war over these jewels.
jaybee1 recommends this,
This museum makes you feel a little like you are in a Bond film. There's about a billion layers of security and the museum is effectively located in an underground vault. It's dark inside with the emphasis being on only lighting the jewels - and what a cacophany of jewels there are - they encrust everything. My favourite was a globe of the world with emerald oceans and Persia picked out in diamonds. I've never been to another museum quite like it.
