Several Thorn Tree members have had trouble in the past securing a visa to travel to Iran.

We strongly advise travellers to do some research and consider carefully which agent they choose to go with and to allow enough time between the application and the time of the trip to…
can someone recommend me a tour guide for the standard route Shiraz-Teheran? I'm considering booking an 8-10 day trip on an established tour, but there are a few things I'd like to see that are normally not included in a group trip (small detours mainly). I can find independent tour guides, but I'm looking for personal recommendations as reviews are lacking. Thanks a lot.
I'll be travelling to Iran solo in April and getting 3G for Google My Maps will make my trip a lot easier.
May I know what are the operating hours for the Irancell office at IKA (i'll be touching down at 5am) and I've heard that 3G is fairly slow, will I be able to use google my maps reliably?
I have a super stupid question. I feel bad even writing it but I need some sort of reassurance, i suppose.
I have submitted my application for auth code for my Iranian visa through a travel agency and, as y'all know, they ask for an itinerary. I came up with a 30 day itinerary but didn't really think it through. My stupid question is: once in Iran, do I have to stick to this itinerary? My travel wits tell me "come one, girl. Obviously you don't." but then I get uncertain.
I am onloy in early stages of looking at Iran as a destination in late summer and have looked at several sites to see hotel prices in various cities and am getting the message that these dates are booked out etc....I have put in many differents dats in Junly, August and September just to have an idea. Does anyone know why this might be? Is it because it is not reccomended to travel to Iran that the sites are blocked i9n general and I need to book by phone? I have looked at Tehran,…

I'm planning a trip to Iran sometime near the end of June. As a U.S. passport holder, I have read that I will need to travel with a guided tour. I am hoping to not have to do this and wanted to gather some insight to the situation. What if I'm able to acquire my visa but don't book a tour through an organization? Will I be stopped at the border of Turkey if I'm on my train without said guide? Several travel friends ( EU passport holders) have mentioned never being stopped within the country and…
