which islands to focus on for a month-long trip in Indonesia: from spices&treks in Maluku to temples in Java

Hi all.
from end Feb till end March I plan to be in Indonesia.
I could extend my stay, but for not much longer than 5/5.5 weeks, hence getting a visa extension to make use of it for just one week, makes me think I will be staying a month net!

as usual, I am a bit optimistic/ambitious with my travel plan: I would like to see a bit of Sumatra, Java, Sulawesi, Maluku, Kalimantan and why not, a bit of Komodo for the famous dragons!
but obviously this all is a quite too much! what you think I can…

Solo travelling Bali & Lombok

Hi everyone!

I'm going to Bali for 2 months starting in January and was just wondering if anyone had any itinerary recommendations. I'm doing an ashram yoga retreat in Candidasa for 5 days and was then planning on spending a week or so in Ubud, seeing the rice fields and doing a couple of volcano treks (weather permitting) before heading to the Bukit peninsula and Nusa Lembongan. I'm going to avoid Kuta and Seminyak as I hear they're very touristy and crowded.

From there, I hope to go to the…

Online Visa possible for Indonesia

Good Morning : )

We are two US residents and had a short time off approved for early January. Is it possible to get visa upon entry (via Jakarta airport) or to apply for an online visa rather than going through the Washington DC Indonesian Embassy??

We applied online for Vietnam without any problems and it was much more reasonably priced and a faster process ... although the embassy discouraged and said could not be done. Wondering if any of the above possibilities exist with Indonesia?

Ubud places open 24 hours

Hello all! I'll be in Ubud over the holidays and from there am moving on to do a sunrise volcano trek. The trekking company is picking us up at kind of an awkward time, 2.30 a.m. It's awkward in the sense that it's on the early side to book a hotelroom and get up at 1.30 and maybe too late to hang around after dinner...unless anyone knows of a 24 hour or late night café, bar/spa/meeting place, etc. the trekking company could pick us up at. Any ideas would be very much appreciated. Thanks!!

Indonesia in March

Me and my wife would like to travel to Indonesia in March. We know that there is wet season in great part of the country. But can you suggest any itinerary? We are keen on trekkings and wildlife. We have thought about Papua and surroundings.

Visa issues - for 4-5 months in northeast Indonesia

I am planning a long trip to Sulawesi, Maluku, and Papua - ideally 4 months, maybe more. The last time I traveled to Indonesia for this long was in 2012 and it seems that the tourist visa regulations haven't really changed since then. 30 days available on arrival, or 60 days available from consulates abroad, with one 30 day extension allowed. (Right?) On my previous trip, I managed to stay for nearly 5 months by leaving the country 60 days into the tour, and getting a second visa in East…

2 weeks in Bali starting January 1st

My girlfriend and I booked a trip to Bali. We are looking for some chill time (both of us work far too much), some spiritual time (yoga, meditation, temples), snorkelling (not diving), and maybe hike a volcano if possible. Surfing would be fine, but both of us are relative beginners so it is not a priority and certainly don't want any challenging surf for that. Neither of us are into the party scene, so no need to bars or clubs. We would like to stay on Bali. My girlfriend has been to Lombok and…
