Medan

Hey all,

I am staying in Medan from 6th of August to the 11th of August before heading off on a tour for 9 days. I know this maybe a long shot but just wondering if anyone will be there around the same time in Medan who may like to hang out and do some sightseeing with.

Thanks,

Mike.

There is a possibility that my parents could fly into Sumatra for a couple of days as part of a stopover on the way to/from New Zealand. If this happens I will need to find a nice hotel in Berastagi for them to stay in for one night. I've stayed in Berastagi dozens of times, first at Wisma Sibayak, then Losmen Sibayak. I can't say I like Losmen Sibayak all that much. I stay there because I know the owners and I can flop there for Rph60,000. But I can't take my jet-lagged parents there. Can…

A friendly warning about exchange thieves in Bali

I went to change money in Tuban, Bali, today. The exchange vendor was on a main street right next to a Commonwealth Bank of Australia building, part of a small restaurant. He had the best rate on the street from what we have seen. But he ripped me off 2,00,000 IDR and a friend of mine who went in just before me got done for 1,250,000 IDR.

How do they do it?
They count out the money and have you recount it. Then at the end he asks for change for…

Here is a question a little different from the ordinary....
I just bought a custom made pair of leather pants from an op shop in Australia for $15. I couldn't be happier as they fit me like a glove and are really fashionable (although probably quite old). The label indicates they were tailor made in Bali.
My question is... hypothetically speaking, how much would it cost these days to get a similar pair of women's pants made in Bali?

Hi all,

I've 4 full days and a half to spend in the area (from the 5th to the 10th of August).

Is Tangkahan a better option compare to Butik Lawang? beside the elephant ride which doesn't really attract me, is the area more beautiful or then jungle treks starting from there a better experience?
I would like to do overnight stays in the jungle, 2 night if there is time and spot some orangutan.

Thanks a lot!

Hi,

Would appreciate your advice. I'm taking my family to Indonesia in August. We're currently planning to be in Yogyakarta for 17th and 18th August. Independence Day is 17th August.

We're planning to visit Parambanan and Borobodur in a single day on either 17th or 18th.

What would you recommend?
- Is it best to avoid the temples on Independence Day because it is a national holiday?
- Is it best to avoid Yogyakarta on Independence Day? Or would this be a better day to explore the city?

Hi Friends,

I arrive in Sulawesi Sunday 26 July and fly out 8 August but my tourist visa expires 3 August.

I need to arrange a visa extension in southern Sulawesi. Does anyone have experience recently doing a visa extension in Mankassar or surrounding areas? Can you recommend a visa extension agent or share about the general process?
Thanks a million!!!

Hi! I'm off to Bali in a couple of weeks with my 6 year old.
I'm trying to find somewhere for us to stay in Ubud.
I'm looking for a
1 bedroom hotel room (so when he goes to bed at 7:30 I don't have to sit in the dark 😀)
that is on the cheaper side of midrange (but obviously fabulous)

Can anyone help?

Hi all,

I've recently come back from a few weeks in sumba and stayed with a couple great families who wanted me to put eir details on the net so they could get more visitors...

In Tarimbang, South Central Sumba, I stayed with Bapak Bobby, his wife and his half dozen or so kids. Its basic accomodation and food, but it's half the price of marthens homestay, the supposed only digs in town (150,000 compared to 300,000 Rp). The family are wonderful. Bobby can only speak quite limited English, so…
