Pekanbaru

Hi,

Is there anything of interest in and around Pekanbaru? Is Siak Sri Indrapura, or anything else in the area, worth stopping and visiting? I'm expecting a typically messy Indonesian city with little of interest. But maybe I'm missing something? Or should I just jump on the first bus out of town to Bukittinggi?

Many thanks for any ideas!

Hi!
We are planning a visit to Sumatra from half of July till half August. Our eye fell on Pulau Belitung for the beach life without the necessity to surf or dive. It looks great, the reports of sandflies are kind of impressive. Since I read it a seasonal thing, I was wondering if anyone of you know if those flies are also around in mid-July/mid- August.

Thanks!

Starting July 12, myself and a friend will be in Indonesia (coming from Thailand) with a fairly open schedule. We would like to spend about 3 weeks on rented motorbikes road tripping around one of the islands.

  • It's just the two of us. We travel light... one bag each.
  • We would like to stay away from super-touristy areas, but we realize that's not always possible.
  • We'd like to keep a slowish pace.
  • Would love to do some Couchsurfing along the way.

Suggestions or ideas are welcome!

Raja Ampat

Hi everyone,

A friend and I we are going to travel around Indonesia for more than 2 weeks. I have been there before and I loved it. This year we want to go to Raja Ampat (Sorong) from the 17th to the 22nd of August.

I have realized there are a lot of islands and the accommodation is much more expensive than the rest of the country. We don't know which island would be the best one to stay with good beaches, great diving and snorkeling. We also would like to go to the Wayag Islands but I have…

Hi guys,
Thanks anyone who takes the time to have a look! Im 23 from the Uk looking to do 2 weeks in Sumatra this summer starting from around the 23rd July.

Im struggling with itineraries though and where to head to have the best chance of spotting wildlife (very hard to judge i know!) I know it wont be a 'shoe string' trip but I do have to stick to a sensible budget. Definitely want to head to Bukit Lawang for the Orang-utans :-)

I love the idea of trekking but haven't really done much and am…

Hello all,

Yesterday I took a taxi from Jakarta Soekarno Hatta airport to Mercure Jakarta Sabang Hotel. The trip lasted more than two hours and the bill was 450.000 rupia. We all know that traffic in Jakarta is a chaos but...not that much.

My personal feeling is that the taxi driver took me by the longest way possible to the hotel. When I asked to pay with credit card ( to have a proof of the price ) he rejected to use the machine and I only could pay in cash.

How can I know if this is a…
