Lonely Planet review for Benteng Vredeburg
On the opposite side of Jl A Yani, is the Benteng Vredeburg, a Dutch-era fort that’s been converted into a museum. It houses dioramas showing the history of the independence movement in Yogyakarta. The architecture is worth a look, but the dioramas are designed for Indonesian patriots.

A Time Goes By
gudegnetyogyakarta recommends this,
The best reason to visit Benteng Vredeburg (the fort of vredeburg) is looking for the hidden message from the colonial time. The fort was a jail for Indonesians. So, they are prisoners in their own land. Indonesian and westerners, both, can learn that colonialism are not suppose to happen again with any reason.
This place is very good for parents who want to teach about knowledge history for their children. Please, bring umbrella and mineral water. The fort are wide enough and the weather are very hot.
Best regards
