Hi, next Monday I want to travel Parapat-Bukittinggi, arriving Tuesday. Unlike pondered before, I don't want to break up the journey any more (thanks for your previous suggestions regarding stop-overs).

It seems I have these options:
- Bus Exe class 16.30 from Parapat incl. AC + Toilet, 260K, 15 hrs
- Bus Eco class 21.00 from Parapat incl. AC, 250K, 15 hrs
- Monday share taxi Parapat - downtown Medan, sleep, take 6 a.m. flight to Padang (next one 13.00, slightly too late for my taste; KNO airport…

Hi, my last stop in Indonesia might be Harau Valley in West Sumatra. Then in mid-April I need a late evening flight to get to Singapore (decided not to try overlanding via Batam, want a straight flight into Changi). To fly from Harau Valley to Singapore, there seem to be two ways (according to travelavidaloka.com and Gmaps):
- FROM PEKANBARU: car time Harau-Pekanbaru about 4,5 hrs; many direct flights to SIN, but take-off perhaps threatened by woodfire smoke (acc. to LP guidebook)
- FROM PADANG

Hello,
We are a couple of two, never visited Indonesia before.
We have booked a flight in August to Jakarta, and we only have about two weeks at our disposal until we fly out of Jakarta again. Although Yogya is a bit far with train from Jakarta, I'm thinking we take the 'executive' train to Yogya from Jakarta, stay a few days there to explore the temples (Borobudur and Prambanan), and then travel 4-5 hours by car to reach Semarang, to get to the Karimunjawa islands. (If anyone has another…

Hello, i might want to look around Harau Valley (2 hrs east of Bukit Tinggi) by bicycle for 1 or 2 days (based in a guesthouse there). It would be leasurely bicycling with many stops, also around bumpy roads. No sportive ambitions.

Do you think the roads there are nice for that purpose and are bicycles available for rent? (If from a guesthouse, do i need to stay in that guesthouse to be allowed to use their bicycles?).

I don't want to ride a rental bicycle from Bukit Tinggi to Harau Valley. I…

Hi there,
I am planning on travelling to Indonesia and the Philippines later this year. I am struggling with which visa option to choose for Indonesia; The 60 day is not really possible for me as I am not based anywhere (I work on a boat so can't apply in a consulate near me) and the 30 day VOA with extension seems a hassle to try and organise while I'm there. I want to spend a total of 7 weeks in Indo, I was wondering if I could spend the first 30 days on my free visa, and then fly out to the…

We are planning to visit this part of Indonesia in May-June this year. We will be flying in and out of Bali and plan to visit Flores and Sumba (and perhaps Lombok if we can make the time). We have two (well-traveled) kids and so want to check on the safest way to get between these places. Since we don't have a lot of time we will fly Sumba-Denpasar (what is the most reliable airline?), but getting between Flores and Sumba will need to be done by boat I assume. Can anyone comment on what might be…

Hi fellow travellers,
I'm a solo traveller who will be hiking Bromo and Ijen volcanos in Mid-April (April 17-20).
I will need to sleep one night in Surabaya before going on the road by public transportation.
Do you have any hostel suggestion where to say in Surabaya ?

Also, anyone who would like to join me during this trip ? I will prefer being with someone as it seems quite complicated to go there without a tour!

Any advice will help.
Thanks ! :)

Melanie

Hello All!

I will be traveling alone (my first solo trip) to Indonesia this May.
I was wondering If people could give me advice on my itinerary, especially how to get around between locations.

I will be flying into Singapore, spending a day there, and flying out the next morning for Yogyakarta.
My tentative plan is:

  • 2 days in Yogyakarta: prambanan temple, borobudar temple, walking around the city

  • 2 days seeing Mt. Bromo and Ijen Crater

  • 2 days Ubud: learn how to…
