From March 2nd, visa (for citizens from 169 countries) is no more required for entry/exiting from some Indonesian land crossings.
In the list there are also:
- Napan, Atambua
- Skouw, Jayapura
So from March, 2016 can I cross to Indonesia coming overland from East Timor and PNG without any visa? Anybody has any first hand report if that is true?
We are going to Sulawesi, will bring the international driving license, which is for driving cars, not the motorcycles.
I know that it does not cover the motorcycle riding, but in all the honestly we have done the same in Vietnam, Thailand and never had any problems.
What is the reality, from my readings, it seems that many tourists do rent a motorcycle without having a proper motorcycle driving license. Are the local policemen strict, do they let the Westerners be, what to do if they stop us…
I would like to ask you for an advice.
As we plan to explore couple places in Sulawesi -Tomohon and Rantepao, to do walks, drive around, we started to look for maps and did not find any -especially for Tomohon.
We will have a smartphone with us and were thinking about downloading maps and using them off line along with the GPS inside the phone.
Would you recommend any map application that covers those areas well?
Which one do you use?
I’m going on a three-week trip to Bali/Java in approximately two months. I realize that one certainly can’t learn much of a language in such a short amount of time. But my previous travels have taught me that learning a little can still go a long way for basic polite communication and showing goodwill.
Do you have any recommendations for books, CDs, or websites that might help? I’d particularly like to be able to pronounce things more or less correctly, know some standard phrases, and have a…
We're taking the ferry from Java to Bali, arriving at Gilmanuk. We're staying a few nights at the Menjangan Resort (http://www.themenjangan.com/) and have been offered a lift from the ferry port at, to me, astronomical cost. It seems close and I have learnt enough "indonesian" to be able to ask someone to take me somewhere. Will there be freelance drivers at the ferry port at Gilmanuk who will know how to get to The Menjangan and any idea of a rough cost?
Does anyone know if there is a boat between Karimunjawa islands and Kalimantan ? I'm planning a trip in Indonesia and I'd like to go to Tanjung Puting reserve after Karimunjawa islands.
Thanks for your help.
I'm thinking of visiting Bali as a solo traveller next month, although I only have a week off work to do it. I'm travelling from the U.K, so it's quite a long way to go for such a short trip.
Would really welcome some advice on whether it's worth waiting until I can spend more time there, or ideas on a breif itinerary. My interest is in the cultural aspects and beauty spots - temples, volacanos, rice paddies etc.
Hi All Again,
Thank you for all the useful insights for the topic about car rental! All are very helpful.
Please see below my final itinerary, hope it's realistic and achievable.
Day #1 – Arrival to Denpasar Airport – I guess we will stay in Denpasar at night as we arrive around 7 p.m
Day #2 – Stay in Legian or around Jimbaran just to see south of Bali – Uluwatu, Padang Padang beach, Kuta, Seminyak etc.
Day #3 – Head up to Ubud through Sukawati, Celuk Village, Pura Batuan, Tegenungan waterfall…
Im currently in Bali, Ubud and am freaking out. Ive been extensively googling dengue fever as i got 4 large bites yesterday morning whilst out in Kuta (i cover up and use deet but am a mosquito magnet) and I'm finding all types of crazy horror stories. Ive currently got a cold and generally feeling run down with sore throat, cough and blocked nose, from research i know this isnt dengue but the general feeling of crapiness is making me more anxious. I know there are risks getting…
Can anyone help? I am hoping to stay and travel through Indonesia for longer than the 60 day visit visa - 3 months preferably for about 4 months. Does anyone have any up-to-date information or experience with extending a 60 day visit visa for an extra 30 days? And can this be done more than once to allow a longer stay? I have read so much information but it seems as though there is no recent information regarding this.
I will be flying into Medan, starting in Sumatra travelling…
