2016 solar eclipse

My wife and I (mid-40s) are tentatively looking into a trip to Indonesia for the 2016 March 9 total solar eclipse. The eclipse passes Sumatra, Borneo, Sulawesi and Maluku before continuing over the Pacific. Depending on location, the eclipse occur between 7:20 in the west and 10:00 out east over Ternate.

Trekking Rinjani with Questionable Knees

I'm hoping to trek Rinjani on April 1 or 2, 2015. I'm physically fit and I've never had knee problems until a few days ago when I trekked Mount Batur. Batur is a baby volcano compared to Rinjani. I had no problem with the way up but the way down was very difficult for my knees despite using my hiking poles. My knees seem to be okay now but the last thing I want is a permanent knee repetative strain injury. Does anyone know of the gentlest route DOWN? I was thinking of doing a 4 or 5 day trek to…

RTW motorcyclist needs help.

Anyone have info about sea transport for motor cycle and rider between Surabaya and Kalimantan, Tawau (Sabah) and Tarakan via Nunukan and Kalimantan - Sulawesi? He has already posted on the HUB without success. I have heard that Pelni will NOT transport motorbikes - true or not? Rider is in Thailand at moment.

Lombok to Flores via multi-day boat

Hi all!

I am curious about the Lombok to Flores multi-day boat excursion advertisements that I have been seeing, including 3 meals daily and planned island stops and snorkeling along the way.

Have any of you taken this route and if so, do you recommend it? If you do recommend it, any must have necessities on the boat? About how much did you pay? And finally, since I will be in Kuta, Lombok prior, do you know if any of the excursions leave near there?

Thanks for any advice you can share!

Visit to Sulawesi

I'm thinking about visiting Sulawesi this fall and I was wondering if 13 days is enough time to visit both Tana Toraja and Lore Lindu without rushing too much. I am also wondering what the best way to do this would be. I was debating if I should start in Makassar, fly to Palu and then head down to Lore Lindu/Tana Toraja/Makassar or if it would be better(more time efficient)to do Makassar-Tana Toraja-Lore Lindu-Palu-flight back to Makassar. Thoughts?
Thanks :)

Watching the Cricket World Cup Final

Just wondering what TV channel I need to tune into on Sunday to view the Cricket World Cup final. I presume it will be shown on an island supposedly riddled with us Aussies? I know there are bars that will be showing it but I'll be stuck in a hotel, for work reasons, in Nusa Dua. (Sigh! Seems I've moved on a bit since my backpacking days...)

Many thanks in advance.

Long term visa Indonesia

Hi guys,
I want to visit Indonesia for 5 or 6 months. Has anyone got experience with long term visa? There is the cultural and social visa which allows 60 days and can be extended for up to half a year, but this visa is not easy to get as you need a sponsor in the country (relatives or university etc). Has anyone managed to extend a 60 days tourist visa? My guidebook says it is possible, but the internet says that only 30 day tourist visa can be extented. Any suggestions?
Cheers, Thomas

Hi,
I really need your help!
I'm reading a lot of guides and research a lot of websites what to visit in Bali. There is so many places must see that I think even a year wouldn't be enough to see!
I would like your recommendations of the best 3 places for each of:
1. temples - I would like to see 3-4 temples very photogenic, as a places and as architecture. Which are really not to miss?
2. Hiking volcano - 2 or 3 good hiking spots for viewing sunrise/ panorama etc
3. Rice terraces - 2 or 3…
