Lonely Planet review for Taman Fatahillah
The old town of Batavia, now known as Kota, was once the hub of Dutch colonial Indonesia. Much of the one-time grandeur has now rotted, crumbled or been bulldozed away, but Taman Fatahillah, Kota's central cobblestone square, is still reminiscent of the area's heyday.
To reach Taman Fatahillah, you can either take the Korridor I bus from Blok M or Jl Thamrin to Kota train station and walk, or take a city train from Gondangdia, near Jl Jaksa, to the train station. A taxi will cost around 15,R from Jl Thamrin.

Great old building, great guide, good views
sometimesiamnotme recommends this,
We happened to have a great english speaking guide who intercepted us on the way in. The exhibits are ok, but the colonial architecture and views from the building of the kota square are beautiful, particularly on weekends.

Charming decay
flavorsoflife recommends this,
The Old town seem to have fallen into oblivion during many years, judging by the state of its historical buildings. Despite the abandoned state of the architectural sites, people seem to have a renewed interest in the area considering the happy crowd of young scholars, local families and photographers around the Fatahillat square as well as colourful food and toy vendors and old bike rentals that I found there in a Sunday morning. Many of the city’s Museums are in this area and together with the square itself seem to have been renovated recently. The decayed buildings with its rusty doors and peeled walls are a charm to photograph.
