Bali Pictorial
Blog: ContemporaryNomad - 23 April 2012
Those who know us well – especially fellow nomads – have expressed surprise that we spent so much time in Bali, a destination they associate with package tourism and sprawling resorts. In all honesty, I avoided Bali on my first trip to Indonesia ignorantly dismissing the island as little more than tourist central. But guess [...]

Thomas vs. Philip Morrisovich
Blog: ContemporaryNomad - 18 April 2012
Monkeys (and Russians) just want to have fun. But when this unsuspecting Russian tourist graciously offered a Balinese macaque a lit cigarette to clear his primate palette, ultra-radical environmental activist Thomas had to put the kibosh on the poor tourist’s Slavic fun. Alerted from my perch atop a nearby temple by the booming echoes of Thomas’ [...]

Explorations in Ubud
Blog: ContemporaryNomad - 16 April 2012
A massive cloud of laziness descended upon us in Ubud. I guess even nomadic souls need some downtime every now and then. Luckily, the motivationally challenged can find plenty to do within a few minutes of the center of town. Check out our mini-gallery above for some ideas.

Babi Guling
Blog: ContemporaryNomad - 13 April 2012
One great thing about Bali, and probably what makes the island so popular, is the Hindu influence and the associated culture and cuisine that come with it. Ubud, in particular, offers many different foods I’ve come to miss while traveling in the Muslim regions of Indonesia – the number one being pork. And not just [...]

Back to Bali
Blog: ContemporaryNomad - 11 April 2012
After Sumba, Thomas and I needed a break in Bali. A few months of adventure in eastern Indonesia will leave even the most intrepid traveler inspired yet exhausted. What better place to relax a little than in Ubud. It’s not exactly off the beaten track, but there’s great food, some nice galleries, great walks in [...]

Bali: Meet the local
Blog: The Art of Slow Travel - 12 December 2011
This post is part of the Slow Bali article series. After a couple of hours walking through the rice fields with our guide, we reach a DIY structure covered by a tin roof and filled with scraps of metal and other bits and bobs, surrounded by coconut trees. An old, wiry Balinese man appears from [...]

Ubud is about the rice fields
Blog: The Art of Slow Travel - 5 December 2011
This post is part of the Slow Bali article series. For me, Ubud was about the rice fields. The village itself did not impress because it had been taken over by greed and tackiness, but at the edges of Ubud are its verdant rice fields, and a rice field walk was one of the highlights [...]

My favourite bit of Ubud: The Monkey Forest
Blog: The Art of Slow Travel - 28 November 2011
This post is part of the Slow Bali article series. While I did not fall in love with Ubud as a whole, I am completely in love with the sacred monkey forest. Everyday, I walked through it in order to reach Ubud, as my hotel was situated in the South, right by the forest. I [...]

Ubud, I do not love you
Blog: The Art of Slow Travel - 21 November 2011
This post is part of the Slow Bali article series. Ubud, I do not love you, because people have ruined you with their greed. Before visiting you, I was told by many travellers how much you were loved, and how beautiful you were, but when I arrived, I found a Disneyland. Your people are master [...]

A Taste of Kopi Luwak
Blog: ContemporaryNomad - 26 September 2011
We first mentioned kopi luwak, or palm civet coffee, while we were traveling in Vietnam. Considered the most expensive coffee in the world (yes, even more expensive than Starbucks), the beans undergo one unusual step in the processing which leaves some people gulping in delight and others gagging in disgust. Coffee berries are fed to [...]

Eat, Play, Tough Love
Blog: ContemporaryNomad - 24 September 2011
“What do you mean a bicycle tour? Leave the villa and the pool?” I screeched in hysteria. I was in one of my lazy moods. “It’s time to wean you off this luxury,” Tony replied mockingly as he continued packing for the trip to Ubud, the place where Elizabeth Gilbert found love in Eat, Pray, [...]

Viaje a Indonesia (Java y Bali), día 9: Ubud

Viaje a Indonesia (Java y Bali), día 13 :Ubud

VIAJE A INDONESIA, DÍA 8: KAWAH IJEN Y LLEGADA A BALI
