Fuel
This is one of the few places in Kuta in which Seminyak residents will deign to be seen. It's hip and urban, with warm red-and-black decor, white trim and art installations. It has DJs every night and a chill-out lounge upstairs with a terrace overlooking the street. Fuel picks up around 22:00.

Pashaa
A small but high-concept club near the centre, where noted DJs from around the island mix it up and bikini-clad dancers seem utterly tireless.

Volcano Club
There's nothing fancy about this big tropical disco in Anturan, where local and visiting partiers mix it up to local DJs until all hours.

Mbargo
This place throbs with the gangsta vibe, and is enjoyed by well-heeled suburbanites. Hard-edged DJs encourage the sweaty throngs to misbehave.

Double Six Club
This legendary club (and namesake of the beach, road and more) continues reinventing itself. The swimming pool is still here and so is the bungy jump. Top international DJs play a mix of dance tunes in a sleek open-air pavilion. A cafe up front adds glitz to sunset drinks.

De Ja Vu
DJs are on duty from opening every night at this high-concept, glass-fronted club with tables overlooking the beach outside. It's a popular place to go before Double Six.

DeeJay Cafe
The post-midnight hours see this place pulsing in the post-apocalyptic Kuta Centre, the rundown shell of a tourist mall. House DJs play tribal underground, progressive trance, electro house and more. Beware of posers who set their alarms for 5am and arrive all fresh.

Bounty
Set on a pirate ship in a mini-mall of food and drink, the Bounty is a vast open-air disco that humps, thumps and pumps all night. Play seaman and get down on the poop deck to hip hop, tribal, trance and anything else the DJs come up with.

Bali Jo
Simply fun – albeit with falsies. Drag queens rock the house, the crowd lining the street and the entire neighbourhood with songs amped to 11 nightly. Surprisingly intimate, it's a good place to lounge about for a few, even when the boys are busy out the back with their make-up.

Bacio
Aims higher than its neighbour Double Six in terms of decor – and drink prices. If you own a Ferrari, you'll go to this house- and concept-heavy club and boast about it. If you don't, you'll lie.

Apache Reggae Bar
One of the rowdier spots in Kuta, Apache jams in locals and visitors, many of whom are on the make. The music is loud, but that pounding you feel the next day is from the free-flowing arak (local spirit) served in huge plastic jugs.
