1 am and this market seems never sleep, perhaps Kreneng is the most popular among bargain-hunting locals here in Bali, not only for the Balinese it is also a tourist haven for its varied choice of souvenir T-shirts, imitation watches, electronics, bags, and shoes. and is especially become very crowded just before the major festive Balinese holidays such as Galungan and Kuningan that occurs every 210 days and lasts for 10 days.

Kreneng also the house of street food that is ridiculously cheap here in Bali, the warmth and ever smiling local people would complete your travel time with their delectable food, traditional Balinese and a little influence of Javanese food.

Once a week on weekend, with couple of best friends, I love to sit there, on one of the food stalls for our very late dinner. We love the warm atmosphere and of course all the food in there. One of our favorite meal is sate lilit, another kind of satay that nowhere to be found but here, is a traditional Balinese satay that can be made from minced beef, chicken, fish, pork, or even turtle meat, which is then mixed with grated coconut, thick coconut milk, lemon juice, shallots, and pepper. Wound around bamboo, sugar cane or lemon grass sticks, it is then grilled over a wood or charcoal fire made from dried coconut shells, on a small ceramic grille, which gives them a delicious smoky and slightly charred flavor.

And the perfect match of those satay that can be found on Kreneng is yellow spicy chicken soup with vermicelli, the city's famous Soto Ayam. The Soto is served with hard-boiled eggs, slices of fried potatoes and fried shallots. I love to describes the taste of the Soto Ayam on Kreneng is sweet in Eastern Java and salty in Western Java. Hmmm tasteful!

I think what makes it is no surprise when Kreneng food stall can be remembered by all visitors is because the food, the people and it's heavenly warm and simple midnight atmosphere.
