Language
Beginner and advanced lessons in written and spoken Tibetan are offered at the Manjushree Centre of Tibetan Culture (2256714; www.manjushree-culture.org; 12 Ghandi Rd; 3-/6-/9-month courses Rs 9030/13, 760/18, 490 plus Rs 1350 registration; Mar-Dec). It also supplies discounted guesthouse accommodation for students.
Mountaineering
The Himalayan Mountaineering Institute runs 15-day adventure courses (US$325), including climbing, jungle survival and canoeing, and 28-day basic and advanced mountaineering courses (US$650), between March and December. Foreigners should apply directly to the centre at least three months in advance.
Tenzing Norgay Climbing Club (2258045; DB Giri Rd; per day Rs 300) runs indoor/outdoor climbing courses using modern equipment and techniques.
Cooking
The owner at Hot Stimulating Café offers informal momo-making lessons.
