Land

Bus

There are regular buses to Haridwar and Dehra Dun; for Mussoorie change at Dehra Dun. During the yatra season (May to October), buses run north to pilgrimage centres, and to Joshimath and Uttarkashi year-round. See the table, opposite, for details of buses from Rishikesh.

Private deluxe and sleeper buses to Delhi (Rs 250), Jaipur (Rs 350) and Pushkar (Rs 450) can be booked at travel agents in Lakshman Jhula, Swarg Ashram and High Bank. They pick up in Lakshman Jhula and at the main bus stand.

Train

Bookings can be made at the reservation office (8am-6pm Mon-Sat, 8am-2pm Sun) at the train station, or at travel agents around Lakshman Jhula and Swarg Ashram for a fee. Only a handful of trains runs from Rishikesh to Haridwar, so it’s usually better to reserve a seat or sleeper on a train from Haridwar and go to Haridwar by bus.
