Haridwar is well connected by bus and train, but book ahead for trains during the pilgrimage season.

Land
Bus
Private deluxe buses and sleeper buses run to Agra (seat/sleeper Rs 240/400), Delhi (Rs 180/300), Jaipur (Rs 350/450) and Pushkar (Rs 450/550). They leave from a stand around the corner from the GMVN tourist office and any travel agent in town can make a booking.
Train
Numerous trains run between Haridwar and Delhi, but the only overnight service is the Mussoorie Express (sleeper/3A/2A Rs 128/361/518, 8½ hours) which departs at 11.20pm and gets in to Old Delhi station at 7.55am. The fastest service is the Shatabdi Express (chair car/executive Rs 505/955, 4½ hours). The Doon Express runs daily to Kolkata (Rs 405/1141/1642 sleeper/3AC/2AC, 32 hours) via Lucknow (Rs 195/549/789, 10 hours) and Varanasi (Rs 283/800/1148, 18 hours). Two trains run to Amritsar – the easiest way to get to Dharamsala. The Jan Shatabdi (daily except Thursday, 2nd class/chair car Rs 137/450, seven hours) and the overnight Amritsar Passenger (sleeper/3AC Rs 98/480, 12 hours).
